Official advice for the public when donating to those affected by the Grenfell Tower Fire'

David Holdsworth, Registrar of Charities for England and Wales and Chief Operating Officer at the Charity Commission said:

We are saddened to hear of the tragic events in West London. There are many registered charities on the ground doing what they do best to assist those who have been affected. We are urging members of the public that wish to make donations to check that they give to a registered charity in order to best support those affected, and also importantly to check with those charities what support they need whether that is money, time or other essential supplies.

    Safer Giving Advice

Check the charity is registered on the charity register.

The Commission issues official advice on how to ensure that charity donations go to legitimate charities. Detailed advice and safer giving tips can be found here.

How can this happen in a so called first world country. My son lives on the 25th floor or a high rise flat. He has a sprinkler system 'fire drills every month. The fire service inspect every flat every 6 weeks. They are given several ways of reaching the ground floor. They have fire alarms that would wake the dead. I forgot to mention he lives in China. What is going on in this country. RIP the poor people.
