A change from the usual outrageous humour to a more subtle comedy is what is in store if you get along to the Royal Court for the latest offering starring Lynn Francis and Michael Starke (Sinbad from Brookside) who is her real-life husband.

The play centres around the late Charlie Moon played by Stark who is sadly missed by wife Molly played by Francis who thinks she has murdered him by mistake and wants to put things right, the only way to do that would seem to bring him back as a spirit.

No one else is able to see Charlie as he attempts to connect with Molly, and help her from beyond the grave. This of course causes much confusion and Molly together with crazy ultra posh spiritual guide Linda (Julie Glover) set out to find the truth.

It has much to do with the bad guy next door Gordon (Paul Duckworth) who is after more than Molly's affections who’s character is a cross between Terry Thomas and the Joker from the sixties Batman TV series, a real creep.

Not content with just one ghost Helen Carter as the late Aunt Peggy comes roaring in looking and sounding like Dusty Spingfield. It’s a great performance as she tells Charlie that life isn’t so bad on the other side if only he can find out what really happened before his departure.

There are plenty of quieter moments when Molly and Charlie reflect on the earthly life together and they decide on reflection that they did have good life and look forward to when they will be together again. It’s of course up to the audience to decide for themselves if this might happen depending on your point of view.

Flashing light effects move the story from here to eternity and back with all the action taking place in a very well constructed living room set and great open sky video projections.

Directed by Emma Bird with set and costume design is by Ellie Light is another good production from the Royal Court until March 9th.
